With the prayer that the words in this song will be fulfilled in our own days, I’m honored to share my new single, “Shomer Yisrael”, produced by Yochi Briskman.

The Hebrew verse begins with words recited daily in the Tachanun service and most fervently in the Selichos service around the High Holidays:

Guard the Holy Nation
Guard the remnant of the Holy Nation
Let the Holy Nation never be destroyed
Who praise You three-fold, who cry out “Holy are You!” three times a day,
[Who cry out to You,] the Holy One.

Then the song breaks into an original Yiddish chorus, interwoven with Hebrew verses:

Bashefer s’iz du nisyoines mer in mer
In nor di kenst inz gebn di giver
oftzihitn dan Toire in tzi hubn emese moire
shmoir sh’airis am kudoish.

es shtait doch v’atem tihyi li
mamleches koihanim v’goi kudoish
Tate shik shoin di ge’ile
mir vilin nenter zan tzi di shchine
v’al yoivad goi kudoish.

Creator, there are [so many] trials, more and more
And only you can give us the arms we need
To keep your Torah and to have true reverence [of You]
And [please], guard the remnant of the Holy Nation.

For in the Torah it’s written
“You shall be for Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation”
Father, send the Redemption now
We want to be close to your Divine Presence
And let the Holy Nation never be destroyed.
